The Equitable Building at 120 Broadway, in lower Manhattan, is the subject here, and the July 1915 date places the view near the time the office tower was completed. Its sheer bulk, which cast a large shadow over the surrounding streets, is often cited as a key reason New York adopted its first comprehensive zoning resolution in 1916. The record for this print is based on an old caption card and has not been fully verified, so the exact vantage point and photographer are uncertain. The view still shows how quickly the financial district's skyline was changing in the years before World War I.
