Titisee, a glacial lake in the southern Black Forest of Baden, is the subject of this broad general view of open water and surrounding shoreline. The photochrom process behind it transferred a photograph onto several hand-prepared stone plates, each inked in a different color, which gave the print its saturated tones. The Detroit Publishing Company, which held American rights to photochroms, issued this view and listed it in its 1905 catalog as number 6551, though the image itself dates from about 1890 to 1900. Its bright colors show how German lake country was presented to American buyers around 1900.
