A glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection records Larry Pape of the Boston American League club, the team then called the Americans. Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied newspapers with pictures, wrote the original caption, and the Society for American Baseball Research's Pictorial History Committee confirmed the title and the 1909 date in 2006. Press photographers of the early 1900s used glass plates like this one to document players and games, so the negative preserves a close record of the club in that season.
