The caption on this glass negative spells the player's name Kirk, while the title, based on research by the Society for American Baseball Research, uses Kirke. The negative is part of the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, sold news and sports photographs to newspapers in the early 1910s. Boston's National League club was then known as the Braves, and this small plate shows how players of that era were photographed for the press.
