Left-hander Ray Collins pitched for the Boston American League club, which was just beginning to be called the Red Sox in this period. He was part of a strong Boston pitching staff in the years around the team's 1912 world championship. The George Grantham Bain Collection holds news and sports pictures from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied photographs to newspapers, and its glass negatives offer a close look at ballplayers of the era. The 1913 date is an estimate drawn from later research by baseball historians.
