Ben Van Dyke appears here in a 1912 glass negative from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sold news and sports photographs to newspapers. That season the Boston American League club, then known as the Boston Americans, opened the new Fenway Park in April and went on to win the World Series in October. The small 5 x 7 inch negative reflects the quick, practical work the agency produced for editors who needed images they could reproduce in print.
