The "Brown Backgrounds" name is a collector's label, not one printed on the card. It refers to the brown-toned backdrop of this T207 card, one of a series the American Tobacco Company packed with its cigarettes around 1912. Players were pictured in small, color-tinted portraits on a thin card stock, and the tobacco makers used them to build brand loyalty among fans. This example is part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards, which the Library of Congress holds in its Prints and Photographs Division.
