Few tobacco-card sets are as recognizable as the T207 series, whose warm brown backgrounds gave this card the name the Library's staff adopted for it. The American Tobacco Company packaged these small cards with its tobacco products around 1910, and the set grew large enough to cover hundreds of players from the major and minor leagues. The 1912 date in the record places this print among the later years of the series' circulation, and its color and halftone printing show how the company turned the national game into collectible advertising for buyers of cigarettes and tobacco.
