Set apart by its brown background, this T207 card gives the "Brown Backgrounds" title its name, a label the Library's staff devised to distinguish it from other color variants in the series. The American Tobacco Company issued the cards in 1912, packing them into cigarette packages as collectibles, a common promotional practice of the period. Printed in color using relief halftone, the card shows how commercial image reproduction was improving in the 1910s. It is part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards in the Prints and Photographs Division.
