What sets this card apart is its brown background, one of several color variants that distinguish the T207 series from other American Tobacco Company baseball issues. The company packed small cards like this one into cigarette packages, and later collectors sorted them by background color, which turned an ordinary giveaway into a puzzle for completists. Printed in color using relief and halftone methods, the card shows how far commercial printing had advanced by the 1910s. It is a reminder that these early baseball cards were advertising first and collectibles only later.
