The brown backgrounds in this card give the T207 series its nickname, a label the Library's staff devised, since the cards themselves carried no such title. The American Tobacco Company issued the set in 1912, packing the cards into cigarette packages as a come-on for buyers. Printed by relief halftone in color, the card shows how tobacco makers used collectible pictures to build loyalty in the early 1910s. Cards like this one from the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection now serve as a record of how the game and its players were presented to the public before radio and newsreels.
