This card is one of the T207 series, which the record names "Brown Backgrounds" for the dark tone behind its portrait. The American Tobacco Company issued the set in the early 1910s, slipping the cards into cigarette packages as a collectible inducement. The Library's catalog dates this example to 1912 and identifies it as a color relief print with halftone, a method that reproduced painted or photographic images through inked printing plates. The title was devised by Library staff, and the card belongs to the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards.
