What sets this card apart is its brown background, the color scheme that gives the T207 series its popular name. The American Tobacco Company issued it as a collectible insert in cigarette packages, a marketing tactic that turned ballplayers' portraits into something buyers would hunt for and trade. Printed in color with a relief halftone process, the card shows the commercial printing of the 1910s, when tobacco cards were among the most widespread images of baseball stars. The Library of Congress holds it as part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, which preserves these pocket-sized records of the sport's early era.
