The brown-background variant of the T207 series is distinguished by its warm, muted backdrop, which sets it apart from the other color versions in the set. American Tobacco Company issued these cards as stiffeners inside cigarette packs, a common marketing tactic of the era that rewarded buyers with collectible images of major league players. Printed by relief halftone in color, the card reflects the rapid improvements in mass-produced photographic printing that made baseball fandom visual and portable in the 1910s. The Library of Congress holds it as part of the Benjamin K. Edwards Collection of baseball cards.
