Looking straight down on the corner of Wall and Broad Streets, this photograph shows the New York Stock Exchange building with its columned facade and the crowded streets around it. The exchange building, designed by George B. Post and opened in 1903, was the center of American stock trading, and the record suggests the view dates to about 1929, the year of the October crash. Aerial photographs of the city were still a novelty then, and the tiny figures and vehicles below hint at the crowds that gathered here during the boom and bust.
