This photograph shows the New York Stock Exchange at 18 Broad Street, the Wall Street landmark whose trading floor was the center of American securities dealing in the early twentieth century. The building, designed by George B. Post and opened in 1903, was a showpiece of the financial district, with its tall colonnaded facade and its large main trading room. By 1911 the exchange had weathered the Panic of 1907, which had pushed Wall Street toward reforms and new banking safeguards. The record's April 13 date comes from an old caption card and has not been verified.
