Meredith Road runs through center Harbor, a village on the northeastern shore of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire's Lakes Region. Around 1906, the lake was becoming a popular summer destination, so this view records an ordinary country road serving a community that was starting to draw visitors. The Detroit Publishing Company made the 8 x 10 inch glass negative as part of its broad effort to photograph scenic places across the country for sale as views and postcards. The plate came to the collection as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado, which shows how far the company's negatives traveled.
