Whittier Falls, with its footbridge spanning the water, is the focus of this view of Ossipee Mountain Park on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. The picture was made around 1906 as an 8 by 10 inch glass negative by the Detroit Publishing Company, which sold scenic views of resorts, towns and natural sites to a public eager to travel. Dense forest surrounds the cascade, showing how the park was promoted as a retreat for hikers and vacationers in the early twentieth century.
