A comedy about policemen, staged in San Diego, sets this silkscreen poster apart from the many Federal theater announcements in the collection. Its title, *I Want a Policeman*, was written by Rufus King and Milton Lazarus. The Federal theater Project was one of the arts programs of the Works Progress Administration, created to put theater workers back on payrolls during the Great Depression. Its posters were printed by the WPA's silkscreen units, which made bright, inexpensive designs that could be pasted up quickly to advertise productions in towns across the country.
