Printed in silkscreen in 1941, this poster carries the blunt warning "Don't use them!" against radio receivers, tying everyday listening to the danger that enemy navies could exploit electronic signals to find and sink ships. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, produced it while the United States was still at peace, months before the attack on Pearl Harbor drew the country into the war. Its subject line names both Japanese and German naval operations, reflecting how much Allied shipping worried officials on both coasts. The poster shows how wartime security campaigns reached ordinary households through public art.
