The poster's text makes the warning plain: "Don't tell him what you know about troop concentrations, departures, arrivals," with a swastika beside the lettering to name the threat. Designed by Russell Kraus of St. Louis for the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, it belongs to a wave of wartime posters that asked Americans to guard casual talk about military movements. These "loose talk" campaigns assumed that enemy agents and sympathizers could piece together troop schedules from ordinary conversation. Its bold, flat silkscreen color suited quick display in public places.
