Hiram Powers's marble *Greek Slave* stood in the east nave of the Great Exhibition, the 1851 show held in the Crystal Palace in London's Hyde Park. The American sculptor carved the figure of a nude woman in chains, waiting to be sold, and it became one of the most talked-about works of the era. Its antislavery message drew admiration, though some viewers objected to its nudity. This hand-colored lithograph comes from *Recollections of the Great Exhibition, 1851*, published by Lloyd Brothers that same year.
