Crowds gather around a statue of William Shakespeare inside the Great Exhibition of 1851, the world's fair held in the Crystal Palace in London's Hyde Park. Day & Son, lithographers to the Queen, produced the print, which Lloyd Brothers published as an illustration for *Recollections of the Great Exhibition* that same year. The scene shows how the fair drew large popular audiences, and the Shakespeare figure reminds viewers that sculpture and literature were displayed alongside the machinery and manufactures the exhibition was meant to celebrate.
