Here the castle sits right at the water's edge, with a bridge crossing nearby, a setting that distinguishes this Colberg view from the town's other scenes. Colberg, in the Prussian province of Pomerania on the Baltic coast, was an old fortified port that had grown into a popular summer bathing resort by the 1890s. This photochrom print was made by a Swiss process that transferred a photograph into layers of color, and Detroit Publishing Co. distributed such views in the United States. The town is now Kołobrzeg, in Poland.
