This view shows the seaside resort of Zoppot, in West Prussia, now Sopot, Poland, with its landing pier (Landungsbrücke) and beach halls (Strandhallen) along the Baltic shore. Zoppot was a fashionable summer destination in the late 1800s, drawing visitors who came to bathe, stroll the promenade, and watch the boats. The print is a photochrom, a process that used multiple stone lithographic plates to add color to a photographic image, and it was issued by the Detroit Publishing Co., which sold such views of Germany and other countries to American buyers around the turn of the century.
