Looking north from 93rd Street, this view shows warships on the Hudson beside Riverside Park, and the record suggests they may belong to the Hudson-Fulton celebration of 1909. That commemoration marked Henry Hudson's 1609 voyage and Robert Fulton's 1807 steamboat run, and it brought naval vessels and crowds to the river. The park, laid out along the Upper West Side's riverfront in the late 1800s, gave residents a green edge above the busy shoreline, and the Detroit Publishing Company recorded the scene on an 8 by 10 inch glass negative.
