A float carrying Troop 248 through Washington, D.C., sets this glass negative apart from the capital views around it. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio working in the city in the early twentieth century, made plates like this one during the 1910s, when parades and youth groups were becoming a regular part of public life. Numbered troops were common in the Boy Scouts of America, founded in 1910, though the record does not confirm the affiliation. Streaks and blotches on the glass come from the coating's natural decay, not from the scene.
