A band the caption identifies as the "Flipino Band" marches through a snowy Washington on March 4, 1909, the day William Howard Taft took the oath as the 27th president. Heavy snow that morning was so severe that the swearing-in was moved indoors to the Senate chamber, but the inaugural parade still went forward through the cold. The Bain News Service, a photo agency that sold pictures of public events to newspapers, made this glass negative, so the image records the procession and the spectators as much as the ceremony itself. The band's name comes from the agency's own caption, so it is worth checking against other sources.
