This poster promotes the Ostend-to-Dover crossing, a route that carried mail, freight, and travelers between Belgium and England, and its title advertises steamers powered by turbines, a newer and faster form of marine propulsion at the time. The artwork is by H. Cassiers, a Belgian artist known for his illustrations, and it was printed in Brussels by the lithographers O. De Rycker & Mendel around 1900. Belgian travel posters from this period were often designed to lure both British and continental passengers to the coast and its resorts. Viewed today, the poster captures the optimism of the era's steam travel, when speed and modern engineering were central to how railway and shipping companies sold their services.
