Park Row, the stretch of Manhattan running north from City Hall Park, became known as Newspaper Row because so many daily papers, including The World and The New York Times, kept offices there around 1900. This view captures that concentration of publishing, with office buildings lining the street. The Detroit Publishing Company made the image as a large glass negative, and the collection holds two closely similar versions of it. The negatives reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
