The Tumulty house stood at the corner of 20th Street and Kalorama Road in Washington, in a residential part of the northwest city. The name points to Joseph Tumulty, secretary to President Woodrow Wilson, who lived in the capital during these years. The picture was made by the National Photo Company, a commercial studio that recorded Washington streets and buildings in the early twentieth century. Look for the faint streaks across the glass, which come from the original coatings breaking down over time.
