Labeled "Star house" and placed at 1929 19th Street in Washington, this glass negative carries a name the record does not explain, so the building's identity remains unconfirmed. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio that documented the capital's streets and buildings in the early twentieth century, made the plate, and Herbert A. French gave it to the Library of Congress in 1947. Dated to between 1920 and 1921, the negative may show streaks and blemishes from the natural decay of its original coating, a reminder of how fragile these images have become.
