This negative is tied to a specific Washington address, 1627 19th Street, where the National Photo Company's photographer stood to record the block around 1920 to 1921. The company was a commercial studio that photographed the capital's buildings and streets in the early twentieth century and sold the views to the public. Herbert A. French gave the glass plate to the Library of Congress in 1947, and the date comes from neighboring negatives in the same range rather than from a label on this one. The streaks and blemishes visible on the glass come from the gradual breakdown of its original coating, so some fine detail has faded over time.
