Few pictures on this board show a nursing facility, and this one records a visiting nurses' building in Detroit with a group gathered in front of it. Visiting nurse associations spread through American cities in the early 1900s, sending trained nurses into homes to care for the sick. The record possibly links the scene to the Grand Army of the Republic National Encampment, which met in Detroit in 1914, so the building may have sheltered visitors that summer. The negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which documented the city and its surroundings around 1905 to 1915.
