Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, is the subject of this glass dry plate negative, which measures 8 by 10 inches. The Detroit Publishing Company, a commercial firm that sold views of American towns, landmarks and scenery to travelers and publishers, probably made it sometime between 1900 and 1920. Large-format glass plates like this one recorded fine architectural detail, so the building's façade and surroundings remain clear more than a century later. The negative reached the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
