Boys in Boy Scout uniforms from Atlantic City, New Jersey, were photographed on the Ellipse, the open grassy park just south of the White House in Washington, D.C., a common stop for visiting groups. The National Photo Company, a Washington commercial studio that documented the capital and its visitors in the early twentieth century, made the image on a glass negative. Its title and date come from the studio's own notes and from neighboring negatives, so the specifics are not fully verified. Faint streaks and blemishes on the glass come from the natural breakdown of its original coating, which is worth noticing when looking at the print.
