The Marlborough-Blenheim Hotel rises in the center background of this view, one of the large seaside hotels that lined Atlantic City's boardwalk in the early 1900s. The boardwalk, first laid in 1870 as a wooden walk to keep visitors out of the sand, had become the resort's main promenade by then. The picture is a 5 by 7 inch glass negative made by the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for travel views. A cataloger supplied the title, and the Library of Congress received the negative as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
