The 10th Battalion of the New York National Guard drilled and kept its equipment in this Albany armory, a building that also served as a gathering place for the city's citizen soldiers. Armories like it went up in many American cities around 1900, as states reorganized their militias and sought permanent training grounds. The view comes from a large glass negative made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed towns and landmarks across the country in those years.
