Risano, a small town on the shore of the Bay of Kotor, is the subject here, with the coastline of Catene (spelled Cantene in the record) across the water. The bay was part of the Austro-Hungarian Dalmatian coast when this view was made, and Risano itself has roots going back to the ancient settlement of Rhizon. The image is a photochrom, a color process developed in Switzerland that the Detroit Publishing Company sold in the United States, and its catalog number places it among the company's views of the empire's lands.
