Dylan Thomas and Oscar Williams are the pair named here, photographed together on Fifth Avenue in New York in spring 1953. Thomas, the Welsh poet, made his American reading tours in these years and was already famous for his public performances of his work, while Williams was an American anthologist and poet best known for collecting modern verse for general readers. The caption card is the only source for the date and location, so the picture is best read as a glimpse of two literary men on a city street during Thomas's last American visit.
