Titled simply *The day of Rest*, this lithograph takes the Sabbath as its subject, with families as its companion theme. The New York firm Currier & Ives published it around 1869, and its prints of everyday American life were sold widely and cheaply. Such images reflect how many American families of the period kept Sunday, with church, quiet leisure, and time at home. Though the gallery files it under Israel and Judaism, the print belongs to American Sabbath customs of its own era rather than to any Holy Land setting.
