Summit Park's pavilion stood in Oriskany, a village near Utica, though the original title credits the city, and the catalogers corrected the location. Trolley parks like this one spread across New York in the early 1900s, drawing city residents out on summer evenings for concerts, picnics and dancing. The Detroit Publishing Company made the view for its large catalog of American scenes, and Oriskany is also the site of a 1777 Revolutionary War battle, which gives the village a longer history than its park.
