Set beside the Kentucky River at High Bridge, this dancing pavilion stood in a park that drew visitors for outings and evening entertainment. The record dates the view to about 1907, a period when open-air pavilions like this were a common feature of American resorts and picnic grounds. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made the glass negative, photographed scenery and towns across the country for travel promotion and postcards. Its wide-angle views are valuable today for showing how recreation spaces were laid out in the early twentieth century.
