Lester Park's rustic bridge crosses the Lester River, a short stream that runs down to Lake Superior on Duluth's northeast side. Its log-and-branch construction reflects the rustic style that many American park designers favored around the turn of the twentieth century, when natural-looking wooden structures were meant to blend into the woods. The image comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that produced large numbers of views of towns, parks and scenic spots across the country in those years. Made on an 8 x 10 inch glass plate, the negative preserves fine detail in the wood and the surrounding foliage.
