The Winooski River cuts a steep gorge near Burlington, Vermont, and this view frames a high bridge spanning that rocky cut. The glass negative dates from roughly 1900 to 1910, when the Detroit Publishing Company sent photographers across the country to record scenic places and towns for its commercial views. The subject headings also place the picture among covered bridges, a reminder of how common roofed wooden crossings were in New England at the time.
