This 1909 glass negative records the Mexican gunboat *Morales* on the Hudson River in New York, during the Hudson-Fulton Celebration. That commemoration marked the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson's 1609 voyage and the 100th anniversary of Robert Fulton's first successful steamboat run on the river, and it drew warships from several nations to a naval review and parade. The Detroit Publishing Company, which documented American cities and scenery for commercial sale, made the picture, so its composition reflects the company's interest in showing ceremonial scenes and waterfront activity at a large public event.
