Few visitors to the 1909 Hudson-Fulton Celebration in New York arrived from as far away as the Argentine naval vessel *Presidente Sarmiento*, a training ship named for Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, Argentina's president from 1868 to 1874. The celebration marked the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage up the river and the centenary of Robert Fulton's steamboat, and visiting navies joined its parades and naval reviews. The Detroit Publishing Company, which photographed American scenery and events on large glass plates, recorded the ship in this 8 by 10 inch negative.
