The *Yacht Evelyn* is a pleasure craft whose record ties it, possibly, to the Hudson-Fulton Celebration of 1909, a New York event marking the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson's voyage up the river and the 100th anniversary of Robert Fulton's first commercial steamboat run. Large gatherings like that drew private yachts to the harbor and river, and the celebration's crowds of vessels made it a natural subject for photographers. This picture survives as an 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm known for its views of American places and people in the early 1900s. The negative later passed to the State Historical Society of Colorado and entered the Library of Congress collection.
