A glass negative titled *Yacht Spray* shows a sailing yacht with water flying up around it, and the record suggests the scene may come from Put-in-Bay, Ohio, a lakeside resort on South Bass Island in western Lake Erie. Summer visitors and boating enthusiasts gathered there in the early 1900s, which made it a natural subject for the Detroit Publishing Company, a firm that photographed scenic places across the country and sold views to travelers and publishers. The plate is an 8 x 10 inch dry plate negative, and it reached the Library of Congress in 1949 as a gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
