Passenger steamers stand at the Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Company dock in Cleveland, Ohio, in a view of the lakefront as it looked in the years before 1915. The company ran lake steamers between Cleveland and Detroit, so this dock was a busy point of departure for travelers and freight. The picture is one of the large glass-plate negatives made by the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers recorded American cities, waterways and transportation around the turn of the twentieth century.
